I wouldn’t say I am wise, but I sure have been encouraged to observe, to reflect, to explore…
My grandfather was a physician and a musician and he taught me this. My dad was a college professor and a real estate investor and he taught me this as well. A scoutmaster, a soccer coach, a math teacher, a senior Chaplain, several pastors and good friends along the way have reinforced this process.
I do enjoy sitting back and watching life go by, noticing little things that I missed before, trying to make sense of something. I remember laying in the grass at night looking up at stars or during the daytime and watching the clouds move around. I notice people’s faces and eyes and tones of voice. I watch seeds germinate and send down roots and send up leaves and eventually create flowers.
A friend takes his young son outside and to the zoo and they look at things together.
What do you see in your life? What do you notice around and in you? What are you learning?
